September 30-October 2, 2020   |   VIRTUAL   |   Navigating New Ideas

There is no doubt that every one of us have already navigated new ideas in 2020 professionally and personally. As we face the simultaneous events of a major social shift calling for greater equity and inclusivity, coupled with the profound effects of a novel pandemic, all museums are facing unique opportunities and challenges related to change--both internally and externally. Whether you are encountering changes to audience or community needs, collections and interpretation focuses, accessibility and empathy, or staffing and institutional structures (just to name a few), we want to explore how you are navigating those often-unfamiliar waters with new ideas. Building on UMA's previous conference themes that examined how museums can make local connections, increase community impact, create belonging, and demonstrate relevance, we look forward to hearing how you are navigating new ideas!

Conference Program

The conference will be held via Zoom. An email with links to all the sessions will be sent to all registrants by September 29. You will not receive the email if you are not registered. Please register by September 28 to ensure you receive the email.

Conference Registration

The conference will be different this year. Instead of gathering together in person we will be gathering together virtually. As we speak with museums across the state we know that professional development opportunities are especially critical this year as museums respond to changes necessitated to mitigate the spread of the current pandemic. We also understand budgets for professional development opportunities have been affected this year as revenues have declined and expenses have increased. We are pleased to offer the conference registration as a benefit of membership this year. This has been made possible through the generosity of the Utah Division of Arts & Museums Office of Museum Services with funding from the State of Utah and a Shop in Utah grant

All individuals must have their own registration so we have accurate on the number of people we serve through the conference. This data is used to secure funding for future programs.

To register you must be a UMA Member. Not yet a UMA Member? Learn more about the benefits of membership and join here. Each UMA member (whether you are an individual member or part of an organizational membership) has a unique username and password. If you need help with your account, please click here to email Ruth White.

Museum Leadership Discussion

Register for the Museum Leadership Discussion as part of conference registration. This event is open to all in leadership positions at Utah museums and offers the opportunity to network with colleagues from around the state.

Silent Auction

Each year UMA hosts a fundraising silent auction in conjunction with our annual conference and this year the auction will be online! All proceeds support programs that help build the capacity for museums across our state. Please consider donating an item to the silent auction and come to the conference ready to bid! DONATE ITEMS TO THE SILENT AUCTION HERE.
