Created in 2023, the fund supports the Utah Historical Society and the future Museum of Utah through sales of the iconic black plates. But HB324 threatens this. It caps funding for the Historical Society at just $300,000 a year, redirecting the rest to the Department of Transportation Fund. This could strip millions from programs, exhibitions, and outreach that support Utah’s cultural heritage.
You can help by showing up at the Transportation Committee hearing to oppose HB324. The hearing is scheduled for either Wednesday, February 12th at 2 PM or Friday, February 14th at 8 AM. The exact date will be confirmed on Tuesday, February 11th. HB324 jeopardizes the future of the Utah Historical Society and Museum of Utah's ability to be the hub-and-spoke model providing much needed support and resources to the history and cultural community statewide.
