Dear UMA Members and Friends:
Our annual event to promote museums in our state - Museum Advocacy Day - will be held at the Utah State Capitol Building Rotunda on Tuesday, March 3. In addition to being a fun way to expand your professional network, the event provides an opportunity to speak to your legislators on behalf of your institution.  Registered museums are encouraged to attend an orientation meeting at 8:45 in the board room just east of the Rotunda. The meeting will provide a great opportunity to review the day’s schedule, meet and greet your fellow museum colleagues, and hear tips on facilitating legislative advocacy (i.e., what to say when you encounter your legislator).

I cannot overstate the importance of conveying to our elected officials the breadth of Utah’s thriving museum community and its myriad benefits to the state’s cultural tourism portfolio. Indeed, museums contribute a measurable, positive impact on the state’s overall economy and continued legislative support for museums will help safeguard Utah’s cultural legacy for future generations of visitors and residents. Please be sure to visit the UMA website for more detailed information on how to register and prepare for this year’s event.

I look forward to seeing you on the Hill!
Your friend and colleague,
Sonja Lunde
