How to make the most of Museum Advocacy Day
By Jayceen Craven Walker
First, remember Museum Advocacy Day is Tuesday, February 25. (Hopefully you have registered!) Second, you will have half a table in the Rotunda for display. Third, this is the day for you to talk to your legislators and connect with other members in the Museum field.
I encourage you to send your legislator(s)—both personal and organizational— an email to let them know that you will be attending Museum Advocacy Day and would like to visit with them either during floor time or in the Rotunda.
Not sure who your legislators are? Go to enter your address in the lower left hand corner. This will give you their contact information and you will be able to send them an email.
Practice your 90 second elevator speech that you will say when you meet with them. Keep in mind that some of you may be meeting with more than one organization, so it is imperative that you are brief and succinct. Also, if you have a handout, do NOT give it to the legislator until you, as a group, are done talking.
Have fun talking with your legislators and connecting with other passionate museum folks!
