Virtual Conversation Tables

Many changes have happened over the last couple of months. The Utah Museums Association and Utah Division of Arts & Museums are facilitating online conversations every Friday at 2 pm to keep you connected and share ideas about timely topics relevant to the museum community.

Each conversation will have a topic to keep us focused. If you have suggestions for topics or would be willing to lead a topic please let us know by filling out this form.

After each virtual table conversation we will pull together resources shared with the group and add them here.

Friday, July 10, 2020 | 2:00 - 3:00 pm | online | free to attend

Topic: Data on Visitor Attitudes Toward Attending

How can we make decisions about our new normal operating standards based on visitor attitudes? Join us as we talk with Kari Ross-Nelson from Thanksgiving Point about how they are surveying visitors about their feelings of safety and health when returning to the museum. Our conversation will include information about how this project is structured, how Thanksgiving Point are making decisions based on what they have learned, and things you might want to think about when considering if this kind of evaluation is right for your museum.

Friday, July 17, 2020 | 2:00 - 3:00 pm | online | free to attend

Topic: Reading Edition

For this week we are asking you to come prepared to discuss the Racism, Unrest, and the Role of the Museum Field conversation that was held as part of the AAM Virtual Annual Meeting with Dr. Johnnetta B. Cole, Secretary Lonnie G. Bunch III, and Lori Fogarty on the museum field’s role in combating racism. In the heat of the country’s reckoning with police killings of Black people, the conversation was an opportunity to come together as a community and listen to these powerful voices discuss how we can rebuild our field and our society for the better. You can watch the video or read the transcript here.
