You can now register for the Annual UMA Conference in Odgen!

By Jessica Weiss, 2016 UMA Annual Conference Program Co-Chair

It seems like only yesterday that Utah museum workers and volunteers from around the state gathered at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi for the Utah Museums Association's Annual Conference. But it's already time to think about this year's conference, and I am happy to announce that registration is now live for the upcoming UMA Annual Conference, October 12-14, 2016, in Ogden, Utah!

Our theme for this year is “Making Connections by Thinking Local,” and with that, we want to champion the resources, networks, stories, and opportunities that each museum can find both in its own backyard and within our statewide museum community.  Regardless of your museum size, discipline, or location, this conference should be an excellent networking and learning resource.

As usual, the programming committee has been hard at work putting together a set of sessions, panels, and workshops designed to inspire and educate conference attendees across the spectrum of museum work. These individuals have been very thoughtful about the needs of museum workers throughout the state, and the resulting program definitely has something for everyone!

As a highlight of this year’s conference, we are so pleased to welcome James Leventhal and Lynn Dierking as our opening and keynote speakers. They are each respected members of the museum field with vast and diverse experiences that will resonate with museum staff and volunteers from across Utah.

This year we will also be hosting a number of free hands-on workshops at the beginning and end of the conference to provide more in-depth training in specific areas of museum work, ranging from evaluation to box-making. In addition, the Division of Arts and Museums will host a “Listening Session” all about the proposed State History Museum, where you can have your questions answered regarding this proposed venue.

As we get closer to the conference, we’ll share more specific information about the conference speakers, sessions, scholarships, and other opportunities. Plan now to register and join us in Ogden on October 12-14, 2016!
