7 Reasons to register for the UMA Annual Conference

Have you registered for the UMA Annual Conference yet? Based on input we received from attendees at last year’s conference, we have worked to create an event that will enrich and inspire you in your important work across Utah’s museum community.

This year our annual conference will be October 7-9 in Lehi, Utah. In case you aren’t sure yet, here are 7 reasons you should be there!

1.       Diverse Professional Sessions. With three tracks to choose from, and presenters from museums across the state, the opportunities to learn are endless! Before the conference even starts, you can use the preliminary program to map out a plan tailored to your specific museum needs.

2.       Excellent Networking Opportunities. After the sessions end, the fun is just beginning! From luncheons to banquets to field trips, the conference is full of chances for you to connect with colleagues from across the state.

3.       Amazing Hands-on Training Opportunities. Whether you want more experience with developing exhibits, need help finishing your first grant application, or need to learn how to communicate better with your board, we have a pre-conference workshop that will get you the help you need!

4.       Inspiring Speakers. This year we have an amazing lineup of speakers, such as nationally-recognized museum expert Marsha Semmel, to help motivate and enthrall you as you learn more about embracing change and working toward best practices within your own museum.

5.       Unique Local Museums. With events at the Museum of Natural Curiosity, the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium, and local DUP Museums, this is your chance to get up close and personal with Utah County Museums! Or, you can use your conference nametag to visit any of Thanksgiving Point’s excellent museums during the week of the conference.

6.       Celebrating Excellent Colleagues. Help us recognize the hard work done by museum staff and volunteers across Utah at our annual Awards Dinner. Be inspired by their dedication, and brainstorm who you might nominate for an award next year.

7.       Personalized Performance Goals Reviews. When you register for the conference you may sign up for an appointment with Jennifer Ortiz, Museum Specialist for the Division of Arts and Museums. This is your chance to review your unique museum’s standing with these goals, and learn how you can start building towards a better future.

Want to get involved? The conference offers scholarships as well as volunteer opportunities. You could also submit a Poster Session Proposal and show off a project or exhibition you have worked on!

We look forward to seeing you at the conference!
